Nominations for candidates seeking the seat of St. Vital city councillor open Saturday.
Candidates can file their papers with the City Clerk’s Department at 510 Main Street between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The same hours apply for Sunday, and Monday, October 17 through Friday, October 21.
Candidates must have a minimum of 25 signatures of voters whose names appear on the City of Winnipeg’s voters list.
School Trustee candidates (WSD Ward 1 and Louis Riel School Division Ward 2) must also have at least 25 signatures of voters who appear on the school division’s voters list
A by-election on Saturday, November 26 will fill the seat left by former St. Vital city councillor Gord Steeves. Steeves resigned to run in the provincial election earlier this month, and has said he will not seek to retain his old seat after losing to the NDP.
The candidates’ names will be placed on the ballot by random draw. The process is open to the public to watch on Saturday, October 22 at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Building.
