Ground was broken Tuesday on a $36 million project on the former grounds of the old Winnipeg Arena.

Watch:

Western Financial Group will be the anchor tenant of a two-storey 100,000-square-foot office complex just north of Polo Park Shopping Centre.

Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited and Shindico are behind the development, which will contain retail space on the first floor, with Western Financial’s three local offices coming together to occupy the second floor.

“This new building symbolizes the success that Western Financial Group has experienced in Manitoba in recent years,” said company president Grant Ostir. “And it also represents our long-term commitment to this city and this province. Because of our growth, we had run out of space in our existing buildings. Our new location gives us a central, modern, unified location and plenty of room to grow.”

The new building will house the company’s nearly 370 Winnipeg employees once complete.
