Four hundred years of the violin will be celebrated at the Winnipeg Art Gallery on Thursday.

Music in the Galleries will feature the WSO’s associate concertmaster Karl Stobbe, who will given an in-depth presentation of several interesting and important violins and bows dating back to the 1600s. Stobbe will link music and art by highlighting pieces of the WAG’s Collection on View exhibition.

“To hear music of the time performed on period instruments, while surrounded by paintings that were created in that same period will be a thrilling experience,” said art educator Rachel Baerg. “It will take you back to the musical salons that were so popular before the age of television and electronic entertainment.”

The presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m.
