A University of Manitoba researcher dubbed “Professor Popsicle” will be honoured today for his 25 years of cold work.
Dr. Gord Giesbrecht has conducted research that tests the endurance of people he immerses in very cold water, and has himself been immersed dozens of times in the name of science.
Giesbrecht’s unique work has landed him guest appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “The Rick Mercer Report.”
Giesbrecht will give a talk this afternoon titled, “You’re as cold as ice: confessions after 25 years of freezing people,” as part of a seminar series in the Health, Leisure and Human Performance Research Institute.
The public is invited to attend the lecture from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in 239 Investors Group Athletic Centre (Seminar Room A) on the U of M’s Fort Garry campus.
Giesbrecht will be honoured a second time this week, as the National Search and Rescue Secretariat has selected him as the recipient of the Education and Training Award of the National Search and Rescue Program Awards of Excellence. He will be presented with the award at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Sunday.
