November 1 is here — signalling the start of Movember — a month-long initiative where men grow facial hair in support of prostate cancer research.
Men started off clean-shaven on Monday and will grow their “Mo” for 30 days. Women are also supporting the cause by helping start a conversation about men’s health.
Last year, $450,000 was raised in Winnipeg with the help of 3,300 participants.
Local teams have come together for the cause and have assembled pledge pages at Movember.com.
Two of those teams are the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. Both groups held a shave-off Monday at Confusion Corner Bar & Grill and will be competing against each other all month.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 7 men, yet is 90% curable if diagnosed and treated in its early stages.
