A report showing the number of people each month who rely on food banks in Manitoba and across Canada will be released this afternoon.
HungerCount is an annual report compiled by Food Banks Canada and will be released by Winnipeg Harvest and the Manitoba Association of Food Banks at MTS Centre.
The report will coincide with the Empty Bowls Soup-er Lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where local students design and create ceramic bowls, which are later purchased by their parents as part of Winnipeg Harvest’s annual fundraiser.
Comedian Big Daddy Tazz will preside over today’s ceremonies.
Local and international humanitarians, business leaders and celebrities are also creating bowls as part of Winnipeg Harvest’s Empty Bowl Celebrity Auction. The auction will take place November 10 at the Delta Winnipeg.
