Smokers looking to light up while at Assiniboine Park Zoo will have to abide to new smoker-specific locations when doing so.

The zoo is limiting smoking to two designated corrals just off the main zoo pathways. Smoking will also now be prohibited within both the English Garden and Leo Mol Sculpture Garden.

“This is something our visitors have been asking for and we want Assiniboine Park to be a promoter of healthy living and a healthy environment in any way we can,” said Margaret Redmond, president and CEO of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “We feel that limiting smoking within Park boundaries is an important step forward and we’re very proud to be making this change.”

The changes take effect immediately.
