Manitoba RCMP are continuing to search for several missing boaters from the Garden Hill First Nation today.
Police received a report late Monday afternoon that four boaters — ranging in ages from 15- to 21-years-old — hadn’t been seen since November 4 while heading to Wasagamach.
RCMP began a search Tuesday morning by helicopter and boat, where they located the empty boat stuck in Pelican Rapids on the Island Lake River. A 21-year-old Garden Hill man was located nearby sitting in the snow without his shoes. He was taken to the local nursing station and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Pelican Rapids is located about 45-minutes north of Garden Hill by boat.
RCMP say it’s believed the boaters got lost while in a snowstorm over the weekend. The remaining boaters — two males and a female — are still missing.
