A single-vehicle crash in the RM of Grey has killed a 16-year-old boy.

RCMP say the crash happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday on Road 53 North, approximately eight kilometres north of Culross, Manitoba.

According to police, the vehicle was heading east on a gravel road when it lost control, rolled and landed in the ditch. Three 16-year-old males were ejected from the vehicle. One of the passengers was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other two occupants were taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

None of the teens were wearing seat belts, and police say alcohol and drugs are believed to be contributing factors.

The driver is currently being held in custody.

The name of the deceased isn’t being released.

UPDATE: November 14, 2011 — The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle has been charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, and possession of marijuana. He will appear in Carman court on January 4, 2012.
