An East Kildonan couple will sacrifice a 41-foot tree in their front yard this morning all in the name of Christmas.

Crews will cut down the giant Colorado Blue Spruce in front of Evelyn and Manfred Knochel’s home as part of the city’s annual tradition of moving a citizen-donated Christmas tree to City Hall.

The tree has a trunk diameter of 45-centimetres (18″) at its base and is about 27-years-old.

It should take about two hours from the time crews begin cutting the tree down to when it arrives at 510 Main Street. Once in place, more than 6,000 LED lights will be placed on the tree over the span of several days.
