Manitoba Finance and the RCMP have seized nearly 90,000 contraband cigarettes and shut down the Dakota Chundee Smoke Shop.
The raid happened Tuesday at about 12:20 p.m. at the shop located near Pipestone.
The shop opened on November 9, despite provincial law that forbids such a business from operating. Owners were operating under the ruse that the property was protected under Dakota law.
The cigarettes seized are federally stamped under the Excise Act 2001 but are not marked or stamped for sale in Manitoba, according to a statement released by the province.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
