Baseball season is five months away, and the Winnipeg Goldeyes are already looking forward to playing ball.
The baseball club released its 2012 schedule on Wednesday, which will see the Fish open their 19th season on the road against three separate Texas teams in their first nine games.
The season begins May 18 against the Amarillo Sox in the first of three games in north Texas. From there, the Goldeyes will head south to tangle with the expansion Laredo Lemurs for three games and then finish the road trip to start the season with three games in west Texas against the El Paso Diablos.
“The organization is excited to start the season for the first time ever in Texas,” Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier said in a release. “It will feel like a more complete league this season because we are playing three of the four teams in the South Division.”
Winnipeg will play against 12 different teams in all three American Association divisions as part of their season, including inter-league play with the Can-Am League, which wraps up September 3 after a seven-game homestand against the Sioux City Explorers and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The Fish will welcome a variety of nine opponents to Shaw Park over the course of the season.
