Winnipeg Goldeyes field manager Rick Forney has renewed his time with the baseball club, signing a two-year contract.
Forney, 40, has held the position with the Goldeyes for the past six seasons, leading the team to a 316-265 record over that time and five trips to the post-season.
“Last season Rick showed his skills in player recruitment and as a manager when he led the team to the North Division pennant against perennial powerhouses in the division, like the St. Paul Saints, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Sioux Falls Pheasants,” said Goldeyes owner and CEO Sam Katz.
Forney brought the Fish to earn a team record 60 wins this past season, and its first division pennant since 2003. He was also named the American Association’s Manager of the Year.
“The Goldeyes have been a big part of my life since 1997,” Forney said in a statement. “I look forward to building on the success we had last season and will continue to strive to bring another championship to Winnipeg.”
Goldeyes management is currently in Dallas, Texas for winter meetings, where they hope to sign several stellar players for the 2012 season.
