A theft from the Salvation Army in Portage la Prairie has resulted in an area woman facing charges.

RCMP say a cart full of grocery and toy items meant for the charity’s Christmas hampers had been stolen Thursday afternoon. Thankfully, police were able to locate the donations and return them to the Salvation Army.

A 40-year-old Portage la Prairie woman has since been charged with theft under $5,000. She was released on a promise to appear in court on January 23, 2012.

Police are continuing to investigate.
