December 13, 2011 8:20 AM | News

Bidding will soon open for a custom Winnipeg Jets guitar, with proceeds going to the United Way. (HANDOUT)

A custom-made electric guitar featuring the signatures of the entire 2011-12 Winnipeg Jets team is going up for auction.

Bids on the guitar — commissioned by Travel Manitoba and made by students at École Selkirk Junior High — will open December 15. The instrument is fully playable and made from solid wood, featuring the full colour Jets logo and autographs of every player on the current roster.

Proceeds from the guitar auction will support the United Way of Winnipeg as part of Travel Manitoba’s United Way workplace campaign.

The students who crafted the guitar are part of their school’s BOSS (Building on Student Success) Guitar Works program, which has churned out past guitars signed by musicians from Randy Bachman, Hedley, and The Beach Boys, to the likes of Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Bidding will go live Thursday at TravelManitoba.com/jetsguitarauction. The auction closes December 19.
