Winnipeg’s D’Arcy’s A.R.C. Animal Rescue Centre is a finalist in this year’s Aviva Community Fund competition.

The fund provides $1 million in donations annually to support community initiatives across Canada and is funded by home and auto insurer Aviva Canada.

D’Arcy’s A.R.C. has been encouraging public support for the past several weeks — helping it to leap ahead of the other 29 finalists. The shelter is the only entrant in Manitoba and will be judged along with the others by a panelists of impartial judges. Sitting on the panel are CTV’s “Canada AM” anchor Jeff Hutcheson, Free The Children co-founder Craig Kielburger, and Volunteer Canada president and CEO Ruth MacKenzie.

The public can find out more about each cause at AvivaCommunityFund.org.Winners will be announced January 25, 2012.
