Ruth Asper (HANDOUT)
In memory of the late Ruth “Babs” Asper, the University of Winnipeg has created the Babs Asper Lilac Garden.
The garden will be located on Colony Street, adjacent to the newly renamed Asper Centre for Theatre and Film. It will include a variety of trees and lilac bushes (Asper’s favourite), along with benches and a walking path.
“We are proud to dedicate this garden in memory of Babs Asper as a tribute to her philanthropic nature, her commitment to community, and to her passion for Winnipeg’s arts and cultural landscape, particularly for theatre and film,” UWinnipeg president and vice-chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy said in a release.
Asper passed away July 30. She was 78.
