A former player and current women’s soccer assistant coach at the University of Manitoba has been named to the official Team Canada 20-player roster.

Desiree Scott will compete along with eight others at the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Soccer Olympic Qualifying for two available spots.

Group A features Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba and Haiti while Group B features USA, Mexico, Guatemala and Dominican Republic. The qualifying round runs 19-29 January at BC Place. Canada’s first three matches are 19 January against Haiti, 21 January against Cuba, and 23 January against Costa Rica.

The 24-year-old Winnipeg native represented Canada in three international events while joining the Manitoba Bisons women’s soccer team as an assistant coach in 2011.
