Haiti students Jean Widny Pervil, Vanessa Laurent, Samy Archille, Héléna Vickaina Lafleur and Jaquet Duval are studying at the University of Winnipeg. (HANDOUT)
Five students who arrived from Haiti after the devastating earthquake in January 2010 to attend the University of Winnipeg are thriving in their studies.
The university covered all costs associated with the students’ time in Winnipeg, including airfare here, tuition, residence fees, meal plans and counselling. The students will remain at UWinnipeg until completing their degrees.
The university says its gratefully accepting public donations to cover additional costs for the students, including clothing, books and school supplies, medical supports, monthly allowances and return airfares to Haiti.
Those who wish to donate can do so at UWinnipegFoundation.ca and selecting the “Haitian Student Bursary” category, or by calling (204) 786-9995.
