Jimmy Greene (JAZZ WINNIPEG)
A jazz artist who wears many hats, including that of a saxophonist, composer and educator, will perform at the Park Theatre on January 19.
Jimmy Greene has released eight solo recordings, including his latest, Live at Smalls, and has been called “one of the most striking young tenors of recent years” by Jazzwise Magazine.
Greene — a native of Hartford, Connecticut — is assistant professor of jazz saxophone at the University of Manitoba’s Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music, where he leads the Jazz Lab Orchestra and teaches jazz saxophone, arranging, and composition. The performance later this month will include a quartet producing a bold, modern, electro-acoustic sound.
Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Showtime is 8 p.m.
