More than 3,300 people across Manitoba made it home safely this holiday season by calling Operation Red Nose as their designated ride.
The volunteer-run service was active in 10 communities throughout the province, ensuring those who indulged in a little festive cheer didn’t become another RCMP statistic.
“We are thankful to all of the people who volunteered to help with this campaign,” said Judy Murphy, president and CEO of Safety Services Manitoba. “Their time and energy made our streets and communities safer this holiday season.
Overall, 1,951 volunteers gave 3,367 rides across the province, up from 3,085 rides in 2010. More than $62,000 was raised for youth sports programs — an increase of almost $7,000 in 2010.
