Heat of Mardi Gras Returning to Winnipeg

January 5, 2012 8:01 AM | Entertainment

A New Orleans-style party will break up the winter blues February 17-18 when Winnipeg Mardi Gras returns for another year.

Thousands of Winnipeggers will fill the Winnipeg Convention Centre with the tastes, sights and sounds of Louisiana.

Entertainment for the two-day party will include the high-energy Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters directly from south of the border. The party will also draw in the usual Mardi Gras crowd, including aerial acrobatics, painted bodies, stilt walkers, showgirls, drag queens, impersonators, body builders, jugglers, and more.

Specialty food will range from freshly shucked oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp, and melt-in-your-mouth alligator fritters, to Louisiana crab cakes, southern fried Cajun pickle spears, po’ boy sandwiches, chicken creole, gumbo, spicy sausage, and sweet potato fries.

Tickets to the 18+ event are on sale now $16 at Ticketmaster.

A portion of all proceeds this year will go towards the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
