Scott A. Thomson will take over for the retiring Bob Brennan as the president and CEO of Manitoba Hydro.

The company’s Board of Directors made the announcement Friday, placing Thomson at the helm effective February 13.

Thomson, 48, comes to Hydro from Fortis BC Holding Inc., a major natural gas and electric utility in British Columbia, where he was executive vice president of Finance, Regulatory Affairs and Energy Supply, and chief financial officer.

“Hydro power is Manitoba’s oil and Scott has the experience we need to keep Manitoba Hydro growing for the benefit of all Manitobans,” Premier Greg Selinger said in a statement. “Manitoba Hydro is a well-managed company and with Scott’s leadership we will build it in to North America’s leader in clean renewable energy.”

Bob Brennan announced his retirement from Hydro in August, after spending nearly 47 years with the corporation.
