A 12-hour dance-a-thon fundraiser is back for another year after a successful launch in 2011 in the form of a flash mob.
Move ‘N Groove 2012 is calling on 250 Winnipeggers to get moving, by dancing and participating in the campaign’s launch this Friday, January 13 at Manitoba Hydro Place, 360 Portage Avenue.
The fundraiser brought in $125,000 for the Movement Centre of Manitoba last year, an organization that works to improve the physical health of children and adults with physical disabilities. The fundraising goal for the 2012 event is $150,000.
The launch is set for 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, where the push to register dance teams will be made. Then on Saturday, April 14, participants will go non-stop from noon to midnight at Red River Exhibition Place. Teams will groove throughout the day and evening to a combination of live and recorded music, covering a variety of themes and genres including hip hop, current chart hits, Celtic rock, oldies, disco, country, and classic rock. This inclusive event will embrace all forms of movement on a dance floor — from the dance enthusiast to those using a wheelchair.
