Five University of Winnipeg students are being celebrated for their second place win over the weekend in the 30th annual Manitoba International Marketing Competition (MIMC).

Abhilash Tyagi, Geneviève Coulombe, Matt Friesen, Kevin Gooch and Shantel Saliga participated in the competition — the largest for business students of its kind held in Canada.

The objective was to compete in a sophisticated Internet-based business simulation from October through December and then teams presented their results to a panel of judges drawn from the local business and academic communities.

The Mexican team from Universidad Panamerican Bonaterra placed first and University of British Columbia (Okanagon) placed third.

Competitors also included teams from Mexico, Brazil and Ghana, Africa. The event was organized by the Commerce Students Association of the University of Manitoba.
