Hockey Winnipeg will receive a $25,000 donation from RBC on Saturday morning.

The organization was selected as 2012 RBC Play Hockey grant recipient and will use the donation to help grow female hockey in Winnipeg. The grant will help to deliver development programs for both players and coaches, and provide access to a safe sportsmanlike environment for any female in the city who would like to play hockey.

Olympian Fiona Smith-Bell will be on hand at the Dakota Community Centre to speaking to an assembly of Winnipeg’s female All-Star players. Smith-Bell won a silver medal as part of Canada’s Women’s Ice Hockey team at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and holds two world championship medals.

The event is set for 11 a.m. at the community centre.
