Local Cat Shelter Throwing Benefit Auction

January 31, 2012 8:12 AM | News

A Wolseley neighbourhood no-kill cat rescue shelter will hold a benefit auction and fundraiser on February 4.

Craig Street Cats is home to a number of large, and growing, colonies of feral cats. The cost of fostering an abundance of cats is high, which is why staff have organized the event at The Urban Forest Coffeehouse and Lounge at 93 Albert Street.

“The feral cat population in Winnipeg has become an epidemic,” said founder Lynne Scott.

Works of 20 different artists will be on display, including donated pieces by Jad Fair of the classic punk rock group Half Japanese. The event will feature a live performance from local band Ex-Modern Teen.

Cover is $5 and a donation of cat food is more than welcome. All proceeds go toward providing food and shelter for thousands of homeless feral cats. The fundraiser will begin at 7:30 p.m.
