The 11th Annual Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel begins today on portions of the freshly-cleared Assiniboine River.

It’s the largest event ever this year, with 48 teams competing on the ice near the Granite Curling Club just west of the Osborne Street bridge. A second rink will be located about 1.5 kilometres away at The Forks’ Historic Port.

Proceeds from team registrations will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, which has seen $37,000 raised in the past 10 years from the event.

The bonspiel will run until Sunday.
