Winnipeg Transit Driver Assaulted, Pulled Off Bus

By Sarah Klein

A Winnipeg Transit driver was spit on and pulled off his own bus by a passenger on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the 41-year-old driver picked up a passenger at about 3:30 p.m. in the area of St. Mary’s Road and Riel Avenue in St. Vital. The passenger began verbally harassing passengers and continued to do so after the driver asked him to stop.

Once in the area of Main Street and Broadway, the passenger spit on the driver. He then pulled the driver out of his seat and off the bus, where he began assaulting him. The driver sustained upper body injuries and police were called. He received treatment in hospital and was released.

The suspect fled on foot and is described as a clean shaven man in his 20’s between 170 and 180 lbs., and about 5’10” with black collar-length hair. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (204) 986-6668.
