The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have re-signed offensive lineman Steve Morley and linebacker/long snapper Jordan Matechuk on Tuesday.
Morley was set to become a free agent on Wednesday before being picked up by the club for another season.
“Steve is a very experienced offensive lineman and a valuable commodity to our team,” vice-president and general manager Joe Mack said in a statement. “We’re happy we were able to lock him up before the deadline.”
The Nova Scotia native played 18 games with the Bombers last season at the right guard position, including in the East Final and Grey Cup.
Matechuk was released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats prior to last season’s training camp due to legal issues that occurred off the field. In three seasons with the TiCats, Matechuk played in 41 regular season games and recorded 23 special teams tackles. He attended training camp with the Bombers in 2007 and 2008.
“We are signing Jordan based on his football talent and because we feel that he can improve the depth on our roster,” Mack added. “Whatever Jordan has gone through in the past in his personal life doesn’t affect our decision to bring him in.”
