Four People Sent to Hospital in Crash with Sanding Truck

By Sarah Klein

Four people were sent to hospital Thursday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash involving a City of Winnipeg sanding truck.

A Dodge Caravan was travelling eastbound in the 2000 block of Portage Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. when the driver lost control and crossed the median. The Caravan was subsequently hit by the westbound sanding truck.

The woman driving the van was taken to hospital, along with two boys who were also in the van. One of the children was transported in unstable condition, but later upgraded to stable. The woman driving the sanding truck was also taken to hospital.

Eastbound Portage was closed while police investigated, but has since reopened.

Road conditions at the time were extremely slippery throughout the city.
