A Winnipeg clothing retailer will open its second city store today, while at the same time launching a charitable campaign.

Loka Clothing & Accessories is opening a new space in the recently renovated concourse of the Richardson Building.

“After seven years on Academy, we wanted to give our downtown customers a more convenient shopping location,” said owner Anita Sharma Turner. “We love the sense of community and pace downtown, and we feel like we’re at the centre of the action.”

The store is also launching a charity campaign by introducing Team LOKA, which will aim to raise $10,000 for CancerCare Manitoba. On June 9, the team will walk 20 km as part of CancerCare’s Challenge for Life.

“Corporate teams, such as Team Loka, are an essential element to the success of this unique event in which participants raise funds while reducing their own personal risk of cancer,” said Annitta Stenning, executive director of the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

A fashion show to kick off the campaign and celebrate the store’s second location is set for 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. today in the Richardson Building concourse, 1 Lombard Place. The show will be hosted by FAB 94.3’s Sabrina Carnevale. Models that will strut their stuff include CTV’s Terri Apostle and Kristin Hursh, Winnipeg artist Kal Barteski, Emily Glass, personal trainer Wendy Novotny, and Emily Hendry.
