Demolition of the former A&B Sound building in downtown Winnipeg began Thursday, making way for a future hotel and office tower directly across from MTS Centre.
Crews started the demolition at around 1 p.m. at 311 Portage Avenue, which is expected to be complete within four to six weeks. The building most recently housed the MTS Centre Exhibition Hall.

Once the site is cleaned up, work on the new $75 million project will begin, including the development of the previously announced 200,000-square-foot ALT Hotel and Stantec office. The project is being developed by Longboat Development Corporation and Groupe Germain Hospitality.
A 450-stall parkade will also be developed on site at a cost of $20 million.
