Winnipeg’s first-ever St. Patrick’s Day Parade will help kick off the green holiday today to celebrate the Irish in all of us (at least on the 17th).
Organizers are encouraging people to gather at noon at the Manitoba legislature. There will be plenty of green under blue skies as the weather is predicted to continue its balmy trend for the entire weekend.
At 1 p.m., the parade will leave the legislature grounds and head down to Shannon’s Irish Pub at 175 Carlton Street. In previous years, Shannon’s has sold tickets to its famous St. Patrick’s Day get-together, but this year, it’s first-come, first-served.
The party is expected to last well into the early hours of Sunday, as green beer flows the entire night. If St. Paddy’s isn’t for you, there’s Agriculture in the City taking place at The Forks, Shooters driving range on Main Street, or a selection of many fine patios on Corydon Avenue, which have since opened amid the mild temperatures.
And if it wasn’t already a given, have fun and please drink responsibility.
