A 70-year-old Lorette man was killed Monday after being hit by a truck while riding his bicycle near Steinbach.

RCMP say the accident happened at about 10 a.m. on Highway 12, nearly one kilometre south of the Trans-Canada Highway.

The cyclist was riding southbound on the highway when the 2000 GMC truck, also travelling southbound, struck him. The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the truck wasn’t injured.

Road conditions and visibility were good at the time of the crash, and speed and alcohol are not considered factors.

The victim’s name isn’t being released.

Police continue to investigate.
