Transcona Marks 100 Years with Celebration

April 12, 2012 9:35 AM | Entertainment

Winnipeg’s Transcona neighbourhood doesn’t look half bad for being 100-years-old — and the party is just beginning.

From a small town in 1912 to a large suburb on the eastern edge of the city, the celebrations will officially begin at 11:30 a.m. today.

Dignitaries will gather at the Transcona Legion Branch 7 on Regent Avenue, where the old CN whistle will blow at noon.

The anniversary will continue the weekend of June 1, 2 and 3 in conjunction with the Hi Neighbour Festival featuring more rides and activities along with the largest parade in Transcona history.

More than 33,000 Winnipeggers currently call Transcona home.
