West End Cultural Centre (HANDOUT)
Winnipeg’s West End Cultural Centre is the first performing arts centre in Canada to achieve LEED Silver certification.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a third-party certification program from the Canada Green Building Council (CGBC). It’s an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED Canada Rating Systems are promoted by the CGBC to encourage and facilitate the development of more sustainable buildings.
“Its achievement is a result of the tireless efforts of our redevelopment committee, Prairie Architects, Milestone Project Management, and the support received from all three levels of government and the many donors whose generosity ensured the project’s success,” said WECC general manager Meg McGimpsey.
