Food Matters Manitoba has 200 families registered for the Dig In Manitoba Challenge this year.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., the challenge will officially launch at The Forks, where participants have pledged to eat close to home, learn a new food skill and be the difference for fair food.

More than 70 schools are also registered are organizers have a goal of getting 500 Manitoba families on board throughout the challenge.

Participants make a public commitment to eat local as they connect with other Manitobans, swap kid-friendly snacks, attend free weekly workshops and share ideas for making healthy eating a lifestyle. The five-month free-to-all challenge also offers monthly prizes.

There is no fee to register for the challenge, which can be done at DigInManitoba.ca/challenge.
