Downtown BIZ Cleaning Up for Earth Day

April 20, 2012 9:10 AM | News

To mark Earth Day this weekend, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is performing their annual Earth Day Clean-Up today.

About 500 volunteers will drape themselves in colourful Earth Day aprons and get to work from Higgins and Main Street all the way south to Assiniboine Avenue.

“I think it’s safe to say that Winnipeggers are more than ready to welcome spring,” said Stefano Grande, Downtown BIZ executive director. “This is a great way for the community to come together to get rid of the litter that was buried under the snow this winter and join our Downtown BIZ Metro Enviro-Team in cleaning our downtown, keeping it beautiful and clean.”

Downtown business workers, residents and anyone interested are invited to join the BIZ’s Metro Enviro-Team and staff to pick up litter.

Volunteers will receive free coffee and donuts from Tim Hortons, cleaning supplies, and lunch provided by Garbonzo’s Pizza Pub.

The morning clean-up will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning at Thunderbird House, 715 Main Street. Afternoon volunteers will work from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning at the Japanese Gardens, 165 Carlton Street.
