Queenston School has launched a fundraising campaign to construct a portion of its new community gym.

A gym committee has been formed to come up with raising $450,000, with construction scheduled to be complete by September 2013.

“We are reaching out to the business and corporate community, as well as parents and area residents, to help build a new gym for the school,” said Colleen McFadden, chair of the Queenston School Gym Committee. “Our journey began over ten years ago and we are close to achieving our goal of a gym space that meets community needs. “The gym will be available evenings and weekends for both recreational and competitive sports.”

The province committed funding in 2010 for a 4,000-square-foot gym in Winnipeg’s River Heights neighbourhood, but an additional 800-square-feet will be needed to suit the community’s needs. The current gym was built in 1931 and is no longer adequate.

Donations can be made online or in-person at the school, 245 Queenston Street.
