The University of Winnipeg Wesmen baseball team split their home opener series over the weekend against the Moorhead State Dragons.
The two games were played on Saturday at Shaw Park — one week later than the Wesmen planned to open at home due to wet field conditions last week.
In game one, the Wesmen opened the scoring in the first inning as a triple by Drew Haight scored Wes Pomeransky to give them the lead 1-0. The momentum would continue for Winnipeg, as the Dragons scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning to make the final score 3-1 Wesmen.
In an extended 11-inning game two, the Dragons defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 4-3.
Winnipeg headed out to Moorehead, North Dakota for a doubleheader against the Dragons Sunday afternoon, where they also split those games. The Wesmen took game one 8-1, while the Dragons rallied back in game two 8-5.
