A black bear was spotted in the southeast area of Steinbach early Tuesday morning before being scared off into the woods.
Manitoba RCMP received the report just before 5 a.m. and located the bear in the area of McKenzie Avenue and Hespeler Street South. Officials with Manitoba Conservation were also notified.
Police are urging the public not to leave any garbage outside, as bears are looking for food sources at this time of year. RCMP say dog and cat food may also attract bears to an area.
Bear sightings should be reported to authorities if they pose a public risk.
