Award-winning poet Jan Zwicky will share her works during a public reading at the University of Manitoba on Wednesday evening.
The second annual “President and the Poet” event will also see U of M president David Barnard share his own poetry. Barnard regularly concludes his speeches and presentations with relevant lines of verse from his favourite poems.
“I first encountered Zwicky’s poetry and later looked at her philosophical work, which is — by her own word — also lyrical,” Barnard said.
Zwicky has published six poetry collections including her latest, Forge, which has just been shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize.
The poetry reading and reception will take place at 7 p.m. in the Pembina Hall Student Lounge on the U of M’s Fort Garry campus. RSVP to Jocelyn_Striemer@umanitoba.ca.
