Goldeyes Acquire Southpaw Matt Fairel

The Winnipeg Goldeyes have acquired left-handed pitcher Matt Fairel from the New Jersey Jackels of the Can-Am League for a player to be named later.

The 24-year-old played the last three seasons in the Cincinnati Reds organization. Fairel made seven starts at Advanced-A Bakersfield of the Carolina League in the 2011 season, going 0-6 with a 12.09 ERA. He also appeared in four games, including three starts, with the Reds’ rookie team in the Arizona League.

Fairel is expected join the team Tuesday in Kansas City for Winnipeg’s final pre-season game against the T-Bones.

Winnipeg also removed left-handed reliever Anthony Friesen from its training camp roster.
