Two Winnipeg entrepreneurs will have their product in the hands of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities next weekend.

Deborah Hosaki from Hoshii Designs and Louise Vargas from SoGa Soap & Cupfakery are shipping their signature products off to Universal City, California to be included in the gift bags for celebrities, media and publicists attending the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, June 3.

“It’s a rare opportunity for exposure that I’m not likely to get anywhere else,” Hosaki said, who sells sewn boutique items such as handbags, scarves, and other accessories inspired by her grandmothers’ Japanese artisan talents.

Vargas also runs her business out of her own home in Wolseley. When not working as a surgical neuromonitoring technologist at the Health Sciences Centre, she crafts natural care products for sensitive skin.

“The growth has been far more than anticipated. I can see in my future that opening a dedicated store is inevitable, and that’s really exciting,” Vargas said.

Vargas’ soap and Hosaki’s fashion accessories were handpicked by members of The Artisan Group, which exists to promote handmade artisans at celebrity events such as the MTV Movie Awards. Award nominees include Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Johnny Depp and Rachel McAdams.
