Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans are scooping up season tickets in record numbers for the 2012 season.

The football club announced that 22,050 season tickets had been sold as of Friday morning — surpassing last year’s season ticket mark of 21,155.

“This is really just a tremendous accomplishment by not only our organization, but all of our great fans across Manitoba,” said president and CEO Garth Buchko. “Our brand has never been stronger and with so many great things on the horizon for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, it is such a great time to be involved with the Winnipeg Football Club.”

The general sale of season tickets will begin Monday, May 28 at 3 p.m., while single game seats go on sale Friday, June 8. Single game tickets are only available for the first five games (including pre-season) and does not include the Banjo Bowl against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday, September 9, a potential opening date for Investors Group Field.

The Bombers also announced Friday the signing of one of their third round picks in the 2012 Draft, Johnny Aprile, along with import receiver Doug Pierce.
