May 25, 2012 2:36 PM | News

A search is underway for a missing boater on Split Lake near Tataskweyak Cree Nation.

The 41-year-old man was travelling back and forth from York Landing, where he lives, to Split Lake on Tuesday. Later that evening, an empty boat was found running and travelling in circles in the area.

RCMP say the boat suffered damage consistent with striking a reef when it was brought back to shore.

A number of detachments, including the underwater rescue team and community members, are assisting to locate the man.

Police say the boater was not wearing a lifejacket at the time.

UPDATE: Thursday, June 21 — The body of John Edward Sinclair was located by boaters near the shore in the vicinity of where the empty boat was found. Foul play is not suspected.
