Two city councillors are pushing for a police service centre in St. James to serve west Winnipeg residents.

Couns. Scott Fielding (St. James) and Grant Nordman (St. Charles) will present a motion on June 7 to have a Winnipeg Police Service centre located in the Citizens for Crime Awareness building at 340 Rutland Street.

Fielding and Nordman say the centre is necessary due to the relocation of the police station at 210 Lyle Street to the new station at 2324 Grant Avenue.

“There will always be a police presence in our community but I feel it is important to maintain a location in the current area where residents can drop in to report a crime, get community updates on crime and receive crime prevention information,” Fielding said.

Meanwhile, two police service centres plan to close on St. Mary’s Road and Henderson Highway.
