The City of Winnipeg will begin delivering new garbage and recycling carts to residents starting today.

Delivery will begin with recycling carts in the northwest area that already have automated garbage cart collection service. Delivery crews will work from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday to carry out the deliveries.

Residents are asked to bring their new carts up from the front street and store them in a safe location until they’re to be used. The serial number of the carts should also be recorded to identify them if there’s ever a problem.

The new garbage, recycling and yard waste collection service for single-family homes will begin the first week of August for residents currently served by large shared garbage bins and wheelbarrow carts, and the first week of October for all other Winnipeg residents.

The 240-litre carts will be delivered to 335,000 homes by the end of September.
