Man Dies Following Two-Vehicle Crash East of Winnipeg

A 22-year-old man has died and a 26-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges following a two-vehicle crash early Friday morning east of Winnipeg.

RCMP say a 2004 Ford Explorer was in a rear-end collision with a 1983 Chevrolet Blazer. Both male drivers were taken to hospital, while one of them later succumbed to his injuries. The other driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway were closed for several hours about 1.5 km east of Highway 206.

The 22-year-old deceased is from the RM of Ste. Anne and his name will not be released. The driver of the Ford Explorer, also from the RM of Ste. Anne, is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He is scheduled to appear in Winnipeg court on August 17.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
